Dear Parents and Students,

First of all THANK YOU for an unforgettable Fancy Dress Day 2012.  We had LOADS of fun!  Students, you all looked GREAT in your costumes!  Thank you for your participation, enthusiasm and a great performance.  What a memorable day!

A reminder to all parents:  Our Parent/Teacher Meeting dates are November 6th and 7th.  Thank you for your cooperation in sending back the forms and arranging time-slots.  I am looking forward meeting with you again. 

Here are some dates to take note of:
November 8th:  Science Presentation Day (We will start at 9.00pm.  Parents, you are very welcome to join us.)
November 14th:  Fun Day
November 22nd:  Thanksgiving Lunch
November 28th:  Field Trip to Taipei Zoo

Curriculum Planning for Week 11:
Math:  We will start with Chapter 6.  We will learn about graphs and how to analyze data.
English:  We will start with Unit 4, Adjectives and Adverbs and we will first look at what adjectives are and how we use them.
Reading:  In week 11 we will read our third selection in Theme 2 called The Talking Cloth.  We will also do activities based on this story.
Science:  In Week 11 we will focus on our Science Presentation and start with Unit D in Week 12.
Social Studies:  We will wrap up Chapter 3 and then move on to Chapter 4, Our Human Geography.

Busy as Bees


Dear Parents and Students,

Another week has flown by!  We were having lots of fun and the third graders are all doing very well. 

Next week is going to be a super fun week.  On Wednesday, October 31st, is our annual Fancy Dress Day.  It is a very exciting event for all of us.  Well, my costume is ready to be worn.  I cannot wait!  Parents, you are very welcome to come and join us.  All the classes will be gathered on the basketball court at 9.20am to entertain everyone with our songs. 

Thank you to all parents for sending back the completed schedule for the Parent/Teacher Evenings, which will take place on November 6th and 7th.  A confirmation note went home with the date and time as preferred or agreed upon.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  I am looking forward meeting with you again. 

Next week, Thursday and Friday (November 1st and 2nd), is our Mid-semester Break.  Students, that means no school!  Because we have a short week next week, and with Fancy Dress Day, we will not be learning any new spelling words or write a spelling test.  We will, however, write a Science Test on Tuesday, October 30th, on Chapters 4 and 5. 

On November 14th we will have our HIS Fun Day.  That will be more excitement to look forward to.  More information on this event will be posted later.  So watch this space! J

Curriculum Planning for Week 10:
Math:  we will do additional practice on skills we have learned up till now.  We will start with Unit 3, Data and Probability, in Week 11, after the Mid-semester Break.
English:  In English we will do extra practice on Verbs.  We will start with Unit 4, Adjectives and Adverbs, in Week 11.
Reading:  We will do activities based on the selection we have read this week, Grandma’s Records. 
Science:  Next Week is our Science Test on Chapters 4 & 5.  In Week 11 we will start with Unit D, The Earth in Space. 
Social Studies:  We will continue with Chapter 4 in Week 10 and also Week 11.

Our Student of the Week is Ashley Breinholt.  Ashley has a fantastic attitude and is always participating with great enthusiasm, no matter what the activity.  Congratulations, Ashley!  You are a star!

We also gave a Caring Kid Award to a student from each grade at the monthly assembly.  Adrien Chabanne got voted the most caring student in third grade.  Congratulations, Adrien!  Thank you for being so caring and looking out for your friends.

Productivity & Fun


Dear Parents and Students,

It has been a very productive week.  We have also been working hard on our Science presentations.  Please remember that the date of the presentations is November 8th.

Fancy Dress Day will take place on October 31st.  Students, start getting those costumes ready.  A fun day is awaiting us!  Our parade will start at 9.00am and by 9.20 we will perform some songs at the basketball court.  Parents, you are very welcome to come and join in the fun. 

Our Mid-Semester Break is on November 1st and 2nd (Thursday and Friday). 

Parents, Parents/Teacher Evenings are scheduled on November 6th and 7th.  Please make a note in your diaries.  More information will follow. 

Our monthly assembly will take place on October 26th, at 2.20, in our library at HIS.  Parents, you are more than welcome to come and join us.

Short but Sweet


Dear Parents and Students,

It has been a shorter week than normal due to Double Ten Day on Wednesday, so this week absolutely flew by!

Students, please have a look at “Helpful Websites” on our blog.  There are links that will take you to websites where you can play fun educational games.  Have fun with them!  Practice those skills while you are having fun!  And keep in mind, Practice makes perfect!!!

Congratulations once again to Wilson Tang for his great achievement in a national Spelling Bee contest.  He won the trophy for the best student in all of Northern Taiwan.

A FUN Awareness Week


Dear Parents and Students,

What a fun Awareness Week 2012 we have had!  We have learned, grown as persons, and played a lot and our class is a Bully-Free-Zone!  We have shared and cooperated a lot with our NEW buddies, the Sixth Graders.   Our main project is called Put Your Foot Down Against Bullying.  Here are some pictures and a movie clip that were taken during the week:

Curriculum Planning for Week 7:
Math:  We will finish Chapter 4 and move on to Chapter 5, Subtract Whole Numbers
Science:  We will start with Chapter 4.  This chapter is about the survival of living things.
Social Studies:  In Week 7 we will look at Chapter 3.  Chapter 3 is about the physical geography of a region. 
English:  We are studying Verbs and in Week 7 we will continue with this unit. 
Reading:  We are going to move to our second theme, Celebrating Traditions.  Our first selection’s title is The Keeping Quilt

We are working hard on our Science Presentation and learning a lot about endangered species.  Parents and Students, remember that the big day is November 8th.  Grandparents and neighbors are also welcome J.
