Happy EASTER 2013


Dear Parents and Students,

Happy Easter to you all! 

We decorated Easter Eggs this week with our Reading Buddies, the Pre-K students.  It was such a joyful and creative event!  We also had our Easter Egg Hunt today.  What fun that was!  Have a look…


Spring Break is here!  I cannot believe the year is going this fast! 
Students, remember about the reading assignment on biographies that needs to be done when you return from Spring Break on Monday, April 8th

Parents, also a friendly reminder about our Parent/Teacher meetings on April 9th and 10th.  If you are not capable of attending the arranged meeting, please inform the office as soon as possible or you can send me an email.  I am looking forward to meeting with you again. 

Students, so much fun is waiting for us during the last term of the year.  On Wednesday, April 17th, we will have our annual Pottery Day.  Letters have been sent home this week regarding our Pottery Day.  Parents, please send the money to school in an envelope with your child’s name and grade on it by Tuesday, April 9th

Students, keep working on those Science Fair Projects.  April 24th is getting closer.  Remember all the things we spoke about in class and do your best.  Come and show the other grades what you have learnt and experienced. 

Remember that Earth Hour is taking place on Saturday, March 30th.  Switch off all lights from 8.30pm – 9.30pm.  Let us all work together to help conserve our planet!

Everyone did a very good job with their Oral Presentations.  Well done, Third Graders.  What a great performance!  As soon as we have all the video recordings in the correct format I will post the television interviews on our blog. 

It was Dahyun Joo's birthday on Monday, March 25th.  We had so much fun and she treated us with a pizza party and a very delicious cake.  Thank you very much, Dahyun!  Happy birthday!



Curriculum Planning for Week 8 (April 8th – 12th):
Math:  We will continue with Chapter 15, Plane and Solid Figures
Science:  We will start with Unit F, Energy and Change.  Chapter 13 is all about Energy.  (Test on Chapters 11 and 12 is scheduled for Friday, April 12th)
Social Studies:  We will finish up and review Chapter 8.  We will get tested on Unit 4 (Chapters 7 & 8) on Tuesday, April 16th
English:  We will continue and finish Unit 8, Writing a Story
Reading:  We will start our fifth theme, Voyagers.  Our first selection’s title is Across the Wide Dark Sea.

We WON!!!


Dear Parents and Students,

Let me start with the great news:  WE WON the Music Scavenger Hunt!!!  The Third Graders were champions!  The fourth graders were great, too, and strong competition.  Congratulations, Third Grade!  You made me VERY proud!!!


We are sad to say farewell to Ayane Kono.  Ayane is returning to Japan and we wish her all the best for a bright future.  We will miss her a lot!  Take care, Ayane!  Come and visit us soon!?


There are a test and oral presentation coming up next week.  Math Test will be on Monday, March 25th.  The Oral Presentation is scheduled for Thursday, March 28th.  Mr. Harris will come and record the oral presentations and I will post it on our blog.  That way we can make sure that your family members can all watch your interviews!  J

Students, I know it seems like a very busy week next week.  The good news is that after the week it is Spring Break.  School will start again on Monday, April 8th.    There is more good news!  Before the break we will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt!   The Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Friday, March 29th

Our next assembly is on Friday, March 29th.  Parents, you are welcome to come and join us.  It is always a joy to have visitors.

Letters regarding our Field Trip on May 1st to the Flying Cow Ranch have been sent home.  More detail will follow as soon as possible.  We had to get all the numbers first to be able to book the buses and work out the transportation costs. 

Curriculum Planning for Week 7:
Math:  We will start with Chapter 15 in Week 7.  We will learn about plane and solid figures.
English:  We will continue with Unit 8 and learn how to write good stories.
Reading:  We will focus on biographies of four world famous people.  Students will get a worksheet to complete over the Spring Break.  Students, this worksheet will be handed out on Monday, March 25th, and you would be able to complete it before the break if needed.
Science:  We will continue and finish with Chapter 12. 
Social Studies:  We will finish Chapter 8, Government

Spirit Week 2013


Dear Parents and Students,

What a cheerful, fun week we had dressing up every day!   Every morning I waited with excitement and in anticipation to see what the third graders were wearing.   There is definitely a lot of spirit in the third grade class.  Not only were the costumes very creative, the third graders are an enthusiastic bunch! 
Here is a glimpse of their creativity for Spirit Week:


We had a lot of fun on Wednesday, at the Track Day.  The weather was beautiful and we looked great in all our red gear.  Students, thank you for all the positive attitudes and for behaving like stars!
For those of you who couldn’t make it, here is a look at Track Day:


Our Music Scavenger Hunt is going to take place on Wednesday, March 20th.  Students, review all the songs and the Music facts.  We are going to compete against Fourth Grade.  Let’s show them what we can do! 

Students, keep working on those Science Fair projects.  April 24th is getting closer.  You have received your last worksheet this week.  Once this worksheet is completed you may start on the display boards.  Remember all the things we spoke about in class.  If you have any questions, don’t feel hesitant to come and ask me.

Curriculum Planning for Week 6:
Math:  We will get tested on Chapter 13 and continue with Chapter 14, Metric Measurement.
English:  We will complete Unit 7, Writing a Personal Narrative, and then move on to Unit 8, Writing a Story.
Reading:  We will continue and complete activities based on our third selection, A Day in May.
Social Studies:  We will review Chapter 7, Citizenship, and start with Chapter 8, Government.
Science:  We will only start with Chapter 12 in Week 6 and learn about mixtures.

Where is the Time Going?!?


Dear Parents and Students,

Another week has flown by!  I don’t know where the time is going!  What I do know if that the third graders are growing up fast!

Students,  next week is SPIRIT WEEK!!!!  So please dress up according to the daily themes, to contribute to the great spirit that is already established among us all at school.  The daily theme are as follow:

Wednesday, March 13thGrade Color Day (Third Graders, please dress in RED!)

On Wednesday, March 13th, we will run races.  We would like to start at 1.10pm and will finish our races at 2.00pm.  We will also support and cheer for the other grades afterwards.  The teachers will also have a team and run against the sixth graders.  Who do you think will win?!?!?  J  Students, remember your running shoes, water bottle and a cap, and of course add anything red to your outfit!

Our Music Scavenger Hunt is also getting closer.  We will compete against the fourth graders on Wednesday, March 20th.  Students, review all those facts and listen to those songs.  Have a look at Ms. Faye’s Music blog and review.  We can win!!!

Curriculum Planning for Week 5:
Math:  We will continue with, complete and review Chapter 13.
English:  We will start focusing on writing and will start off with learning how to write a personal narrative.
Reading:  We have read our second selection, Seal Surfer.  We will do activities based on this story.
Science:  We will move on to Chapter 12 and learn about mixtures.
Social Studies:  We will continue with Chapter 7, Citizenship
